Madhavi Farms, in collaboration with Waterfarmers Aquaponics, has launched its aquaponics farm in Bengaluru, near the national park.
As India’s first and largest aquaponics farm, the 20-acre organic farm has a production capacity of 800 kgs of assorted vegetables per day. The produce will be organic, using a tenth of the resources that get utilised in open field cultivation, a release said.
Aquaponics is a system of aquaculture in which the waste produced by farmed fish or other aquatic creatures supplies the nutrients for plants grown hydroponically, which in turn purify the water. Madhavi Farms’ aquaponic system will house Bred koi Carp fish.
Alongside, the property also participates in beekeeping, which will contribute to the greenhouse ecosystem. The property also has a goshala, which is home to 18 Desi and Gir cows.
