The Indoor Design

Multi-storey warehouse racking and LED grow lights are not what you expect to see in your regular community centre farm. But at Scadding Court, right in the middle of the community gathering area, you have the best resources coming together to produce the freshest greens and tilapia in downtown Toronto.

The Indoor Design

Taking fish farming downtown

Aquaponics at SCCC makes fish farming possible in the heart of downtown. Housed in a completely closed loop system, with no necessity for discharge into the city utilities, it’s as if the fish tanks were hidden in plain sight. Producing fresh, pollutant free Tilapia raised in ideal growing conditions brings a whole new dimension of opportunity for commerce to the community centre.

A project for society

707 Aquaponics is address of environmentally responsible food for the community. Certain days of the week, Lettuce is available for a dollar a head, the food trucks outside, with people lining up for an hour. The fish is processed at a co-op kitchen offsite to lend itself to the SME caterers in the area.
